The core of the block board is made from solid blocks of wood.These blocks are rectangular elongated blocks/strips obtained from a softwood tree. All these small blocks are of almost the same size and are arranged end to end to form the entire block board core. Then, a top and bottom veneer (layer of wooden ply) is bonded/glued over these blocks to form the faces/surfaces.
The two most well-known types are:
Commercial Block board: ( IS-1659) It is Interior grade Block board meant for indoor use made using UF resins. Used in home and office furniture. It is Moisture resistant (MR grade) but it is not waterproof.
Waterproof Block board: (IS-1659 BWP) It is Interior grade Block board meant for indoors applications where conditions are more humid & wet made using phenolic resins.
Applications: It is the most preferred choice when long pieces of wood are required for furniture-making as it is stiffer and does not bends or sags like plywood. Example:

- Tables and benches
- Lengthy wall panels
- Cupboards and Kitchen Shutters
